Lcd Vs Plasma Tv
LCD Vs Plasma Tv's ...-battle of the Couch Potato
PLASMA TV vs. LCD TV
1. Plasma and LCD technology - what's the difference?
Plasma and LCD panels may look similar, but the flat screen and thin profile is where the similarities end. Plasma screens, as its name suggests, uses a matrix of tiny gas plasma cells charged by precise electrical voltages to create a picture. LCD screens (liquid crystal display) are in layman's terms sandwiches made up of liquid crystal pushed in the space between two glass plates. Images are created by varying the amount electrical charge applied to the crystals. Each technology has its strengths and weaknesses.
2. What advantages does plasma have over LCD?
*It has better contrast as it shows black better.
*Has a better viewing angle.(New plasma TVs now have a better angle)
*Brighter display
*Doesn't blur.
*Better refresh rate
*Available in large screens easily.
*Cheaper than LCD only for large displays like 42 inches.
3.What advantages does LCD have over plasma?
*Higher resolution
*Consumes less electricity when compared to plasma.
*Lighter and easily portable.
*Longer life span.
*Doesn't burn out like plasma TV.
NOTE: LCD TVs are catching up with plasma and even out beating them in some of the advantage's mentioned above eg. HDTV LCD's have better contrast than plasma's. In short LCD technology is catching up and improving alot where as plasma TVs technology is more static. They are also making use of LCD TVs short viewing angle like three in one TVs ! You can see different video display at different angles.
"SO WHAT DO I BUY?"
Buy an LCD TV (preferably the latest one's) they are much cheaper , consume less power , are easy to run and last long. They are ideal if your buying a TV less than 42'inches and are becoming cheaper each day.
If you are going for a TV that is above 42 inches it is recommend that you buy a plasma TV.If not stick to LCD .

LCD vs Plasma TV for Gaming? (Answers: 6) (Comments: 0)
I want to get a new TV and was wondering which was better LCD or Plasma.'. I am looking for a 40 inch TV and I will be doing around 7-8 hours of gaming a day. I don't watch much sports but i watch a football match one a week. I'm not a movie watcher as well. I also wanted to know if Panasonic Viera plasma TV's have burn-in because people say don't get Plasma if your going to be doing a lot of gaming.
I will be playing the Ps3 on the TV

LCD vs. Plasma TV: Which should I choose? (Answers: 5) (Comments: 0)
I am going to purchase a television for my parents for Father's Day to replace their small, ancient set that no longer works. I was planning to spend between $400 and $700 and I have found two models that both sound very good.
The first model that I looked at is a Samsung. It is a 42" plasma screen, with 720p resolution and a 600 Hz refresh rate. Here is a link to it on Best Buy's website: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+42%22+Class+/+720p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9791253.p?skuId=9791253&productCategoryId=abcat0101001&id=1218175547625#tabbed-customerreviews . It is originally $599 but it's on sale for $499.
The other model I was looking at was an LG. It is a 32" TV with 1080p resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It is an LCD screen instead of plasma, though. Here is a link to it: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+32%22+Class+/+1080p+/+120Hz+/+LCD+HDTV/9811773.p?id=1218177896216&skuId=9811773#tabbed-customerreviews . This set was originally $799 but it's on sale for $609.
Which TV should I purchase? I'm leaning towards the Samsung Plasma because the screen is ten inches larger, it has a much higher refresh rate, and it's over a hundred dollars cheaper. My parents don't play video games or anything. They have a DVD/VCR combination box in their living room already, and that's the only thing they'll do with it. They have standard cable from Comcast but the signals aren't in hi-def and they don't get any specifically hi-def channels either, so I don't think the resolution issue should matter. Which one should I buy?
