Is technology making us a dumber society?
People say that the invention of the television marked the beginning of the "dumbing down" of America. Technological advances in just about every field imaginable have made our lives easier, but at the same time, have we lost our ability to do things for ourselves?
Take banking as an example. With debit cards, ATMs and online banking, the personal check is nearly a thing of the past. I was shopping in a store this past weekend, and the store's credit card verification system was momentarly down. Someone in front of me in line, who wanted to pay with his debit card, obviously could not. The cashier said she would accept a personal check. He said that even if he had his checkbook with him, he wouldn't know how to properly fill one out.
Just how far has our society fallen into a technology trap?
