EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival

As an avid fan and resident Disney expert for close friends, I often asked, "When is the best time to go to Disney World?" When I respond to them that there is never a bad time, they look at me pretty crazy, but the statement really is a true one. There really is no bad time to go to Disney World. There is always something going on at the "happiest place on earth." Whether you go in April or October, Disney World always has something going on. Each spring EPCOT comes alive with the International Flower and Garden Festival.

This festival is a celebration filled with flowers, seminars and musical guest. EPCOT is transformed into a walk thru garden filled with colorful blooms and fragrances that overwhelm the senses. The Disney cast members do an amazing job with floral displays throughout the park that take your breath away. As you walk through the park, you see different topiary displays that you instantly recognize as some of your favorite Disney characters. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and even some characters you don't see in the parks very often such as the Seven Dwarfs are all made into great looking floral displays. And what would spring time be without butterflies. Disney even sets up a butterfly garden set up that you can walk thru and see different species up close and personal.

The International Flower and Garden festival also brings out some of the most noted gardening experts from HGTV and the DIY networks. Notable celebrities such as John Gidding, Sabrina Soto, and Dan Faires offer seminars to give you pointers on how to transform your home garden into a floral paradise. The seminars are generally held each week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are usually 2 seminars given each day in the Festival Center located in Future World which is located between Universe of Energy and Mission: Space. There is no additional charge to go to these seminars, but they do fill up fast so you must get there early as seating is limited.

The sound of spring also comes alive at the festival with the Flower Power Concert Series. Musical acts such as The Guess Who, The Spinners and Chubby Checker & The Wildcats get the party started each Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the festival. Each act performs 3 times each evening at the American Gardens Theatre in World Showcase. As with the seminars, there is no additional charge to go to these seminars, but seating is limited in the theatre so you must get there early to get a seat. But hey who needs a seat at a concert. You will be too busy dancing to some of your favorite tunes!

The EPCOT International Flower and Garden festival truly is a sensory overload for your senses of sight and smell. The festival generally runs from early March thru the end of May.
