Everyone or at least the biggest majority of people will have seen a CRT television set. These television sets work with a cathode ray tube system. And you will know them, when you see them, because they are bulky and take up a lot of space.
Today, people are opting to go with the LCD HDTV television sets. It is new, and has the latest technology. Not to mention all the other benefits that comes with it. However, there is one main reason why you would buy a CRT television, and that is because of price.
Most of the CRT televisions today can be purchased used. So, if you want to buy a television for next to nothing, then this is the way to go. However, if you can afford LCD HD TV, you will find much more benefits.
The LCD HD TV sets available today are simply amazing. They come with high definition technology, which is the latest in pristine quality sound and audio. Compared with CRT televisions, you will find that the LCD TV sets present a much better image.
Resolution on the HDTV LCD TV sets is much higher than existing CRT televisions, which is essential with the applications that televisions work with today. Not only are you viewing movies any more, but are having entertainment systems such as the Sony PlayStation 3, which is like a computer.
All these uses need a television set that is up to the challenge. And today's LCD HD TV sets allow you to get the most out of all these uses. We don't know what the future holds, and if today's technology needs high definition, then the technology of tomorrow will definitely need a LCD HD TV.
There is a big reason not to go with CRT televisions, and that is the high definition aspect. You will be hard pressed to find a CRT television with high definition. CRT is bulky and takes up a lot of space; however the LCD HDTV sets are slim, and lightweight.
You can even hang a LCD HDTV set onto a wall, which for big cathode ray televisions, this was next to impossible. Which ever option you choose, when you put the TV somewhere, then it is likely it is a permanent place for the television, however, it is good to be able to move the television with ease, instead of having to break a sweat every time.
From a price point of view, the LCD HD TV sets available today are coming down in price, making them accessible to all people. The main reason why you would buy a CRT television is because of buying used or being on a tight budget.
If you can afford a LCD HDTV set, then I strongly suggest going with high definition. It will benefit you much more in the long term, not to mention that you will have the latest technology which is essential.

How many over the air HDTV channels should I be receiving? Am I receiving extra ones due to a "strong signal"?
I bought an HDTV yesterday and when I auto-programmed my stations I was able to pick up all the local channels (NBC, ABC, FOX, etc.) withouth using an antena. What I thought was strange was, I was able to pick up what appeared to be other digital stations that I didn't think were considered "over the air". In addition to stuff like Style network, I was picking up random movie stations, Howard TV (on demand station), and even porn. Is this common? The strange thing was the stations would randomly cut out, and also change. For instance, I'd have Howard TV on channel 81-3 one minute, then that would cut out and it would be on channel 90-1. This happened with quite a few stations. I would get these movies for a while, then they'd either cut out due to "weak signal", or change to a different station that I'd locate later when flipping around. 1 - is this common? 2 - Would buying an HDTV antena keep these stations from cutting out? The more help/info I could get, I'd appreciate it.
Note - I do NOT have HD cable, nor do I plan on getting it. I don't even have a cable box. I was getting these stations by just plugging the cable in directly from the wall.
To person below - What I have now is "basic cable". That's what I meant. No box though, just straight feed from the wall. So you're saying that the antena will not help, but actually take away those "premium" stations I picked up? Should I expect to lose them eventually either way? Not sure if picking them all up on the first night was just a "fluke" that will go away.
