How do I connect my laptop to my 1080p hdtv?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and a Dynex 40in lcd hdtv (1080p).

My laptop has a VGA output and my TV has vga, hdmi, and s-video.

So what is the best..or only way to do this? Thank you!

VGA is the easiest. HDMI is the best quality, but unless you've got an HDMI or DVI out on the laptop you won't be able to do it. S-video is digital, but it can't handle high resolutions that HDMI or even analog VGA can.

So I guess my vote is for VGA. Your sound will still be coming out of the laptop, though. You need HDMI for video and audio in one connection. However, you can connect your laptop's line-out or headphones jack to the TV's analog audio input, if you're up to it. If you have an SPDIF or optical audio out that's even better; you'll be able to get digital surround sound (just like HDMI).
