I wanna go Surround Sound.?

Hello guys,

For years, since I was 12... I've been asking my parents to buy me surround sound systems for birthdays and christmas'... they (with no knowledge of true surround sound is) buy me the cheapest thing they can find.... All grown up, I wanna go all out.

I own a 65" rear projection 1080p hdtv... love it, but not enjoying it without the true surround sound feel. I know nothing about sound at all. I get the concept of the 5.1, subwoofer, back, front, dialogue speakers.... but I wanna know whats the best? I wanna use my surround sound system for my tv watching, my movie watching (blu ray on my ps3) for gaming on my xbox 360, and just FM listening.

I am extremely attracted to floor stand speakers! I just want them! I want something with alot of Bass and will be LOUD! I want the true feeling of being in the movie. I am confused about the recievers and the setup with speakers and the wiring with the tv. I can't seem to find a package with the reciever and the 5.1 surround sound speakers. I don't really wanna go no more than $1,000 principle. But I want the best out there! Can anyone point me in that direction? Direct links to awesome packages?

$1,000 is a pretty moderate budget when it comes to a home theater sound system. For that price you'll probably have to go with a higher end HTIB like the Onkyo HT-S990THX (see first link).

When you get into Hi-Fi speakers they can start getting ridiculously expensive. My Klipsch speakers and sub were almost $5,000, just for the speakers and my receiver was $1,000 used.

A lot about a good sounding system starts with how your room is set up. There are basic room dimensions work best (see second link). After that there are what they call room treatments to help tame certain deficiencies a room has. You see them in movie theaters as big panels along the walls. Most of the acoustic treatments can be easily made by yourself. A very good room setup can make your $1,000 system sound like a $5,000 one. A bad room can make a $5,000 system sound like a $1,000 one.

And BTW having a Bose system will get you laughed out of any audiophile circle.

sound is not about what you know so dont get all caught up in specs.

as a salesman for a sttereo store for years i can tell you one piece of advice. take a movie DVD's, that you know well

(I've always used TOP GUN) ab=d compare it on different systems

and a music CD that has great audio quality that you know the music. this should have some good tight punchy bass and crisp highs if you like rock then Rush 's Moving Pictures is the best

if you know that there are cymbals that should sound like "SSS" but they end up sounding like "ch" then keep looking around . buy the speaker first . and the amp second buy more power than you need and dont worry too much about exceeding the rating .worry more about having enough power to supply the peaks.

hollywood has got carried away with dynamic range and the difference in volume from low to loud is getting ridiculous

you should look for a system that gives you as much volume from the first third of your volume knob as you will ever need and you will have enough left ot over for the loud stuff when it comes

    Receiver: http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR606-Cha…

A great product, has all the connections you'll need, it does so much, and its great value. Was $500 now $370.

Front main speakers: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Monitor… Half price $219.97

Centre speaker: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Center-… Again, almost half price, $129.99

    Rears: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Monitor… $199.99 42% off.

    Sub woofer: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-12-Inch… $314.99

Total cost is a bit over $1000, but you will have a great sounding system for the extra outlay, the onkyo reciever has all the latest gadgetry and is a quality product.

The Quality of the Sound has NOTHING to do with the Size of them.

many all-in 1 systems such as BOSE have tiny speakers that far outperform many hug speaker systems in terms of Quality of Sound but not necessarily Volume.

Sound is a very subjective thng what one person thinks sounds perfect may sound awful to anther.

The ONLY option is to go to a HiFI shop specialising in surround systems and book a consultation . That said if you want HIFI surround sound your $1000 budget wont get you much HIGH.. the minimum suggested spend for a quality system would be 3 times that.

if the $1000 is a limit you will have to downgrade your expectations about quality and volume and buy something like the Aiwa or Sony setups in the ir midranges. as these offer reasonable sound for a reasonable price.
