What is the difference between 1080i and 1080p for DVD players, which is better?

I have heard about interlacing, progressive scanning etc...I dont yet have a hdtv, but will be getting one soon, I want to buy the right DVD player now.

All HD dvd players display in a maximum of 1080i. Blu-ray dvd players display in maximum of1080p. All HDTV's specify how ''great'' the tv clarity is. 480i, 720i, 1080i, 720p, 1080p going left to right is the order of the least clarity of HDTV's to best clarity. 1080p is called full HD because you can't go any higher than that. Of course the price of the tv will go up if you want better quality. You should buy your dvd player according to your tv. I hope i answered you question.
