Let your eyes and pocketbook be your guide. There is a big difference in price and picture. Til the full conversion in 2009 it will be hard to fully see the differences on TV. For video there is a diffence now. But to watch a DVD is it worth a 1000 to 2000 dollar difference I think not, but that me. The 1080 is the best there is but only on Video can you take advantage of it. Plasmas are great for the vivid picture, but they have some draw backs as well. The can get some burn in. If something goes wrong with the picture that it, nothing can be done. You can't replace the tubes or refresh them. The are a heat source so you can't put them in High heat rooms. LCD is the better way to go in the mountable market but they don't have the size of the plasmas yet. Go to cyberscholar.com and learn more.

1080p is a screen resolution. Its only available in Blu-ray or HD-DVD discs. No one is broadcasting in 1080p. Many networks however are broadcasting in 1080i. NBC, CBS, HBO, Discovery HD Theatre, HDNet, are among those in 1080i. I've read where the difference between 1080i and 1080p is barely perceptible.

I have a 37" LCD from ViewSonic. I like the quality of the LCD picture and prefer it over Plasma. My issue with plasma is the glare its screen can have.

Go to the Wall Street Journal's website wsj.com. Most of their site requires a paid subscription. However, their tech. columnist Walt Mossberg's reviews are available for free. He recently reviewed HDTV's. His column appears every Thursday and his review may have been November 2 or 9.

The difference is in the tech. Each tech has it's up and downs. DLP's have nice picture quality, the problem with those in my opinion is that they are bulky and can't be viewed very well from angles. Plasmas have great color and picture quality, but from I've heard they suffer from picture burn-in. So if you're a gamer, don't get a plasma. If you're not it'll suit you fine. They are flat too! So you can mount them on walls and save some space. I haven't heard much complaints from LCD's. They appear to have a more washed out color than the other 2 types though. That's not to say they look bad, its just that the colors look a bit more vibrant on the other types. They don't seem to suffer from burn-in, so I recommend this type if you're a gamer.

Anyway, I was at BestBuy the other night and I saw a 52in Samsung LCD 1080p for around 3-4k. Sounds like a very good deal to me!
