How To Save Money And Get The TV You Want

I hate paying for TV. There is free air TV out there and so few people take advantage of this fact. I saved $75 per month on my television bill and still watch everything that I enjoyed before.

The trick is in the set up costs. It cost me $235 to get myself set up to take advantage of this saving, but in a few months I made up that money.

I already had an extra computer that could surf the internet and play movies from internet services. This would be the biggest cost for a lot of people. I am lucky, I used Goodwill industries auction site to pick up an inexpensive computer for my daughter to use when she first moved out of the house. She has since returned this computer to me and for the most part it has sat around my house collecting dust.

My biggest cost was getting a good free air TV antenna, amplifiers, splitter and cables. I purchased a very good antenna for $95 from the hardware store. I placed this antenna in my attic, I did not want to go the roof mount if I could as I fear roofing damage caused by the wind and storms.

I had a bunch of coaxial cable so I bought a 6 way splitter, a signal amp/filter for the antenna. I have 1 digital TV and one standard analog TV so I had to buy a converter box for the analog TV. I needed a seperate amplifier for the digital TV as the cable run was fairly long and signal loss was killing my reception.

I hooked up the antenna to my televisions and used the auto-program feature and found quite a few channels in my area, in all I have 16 channels I can pick up. the 4 major networks give me great HD signal. In fact, my father thinks I get a better picture than he does through his dish. It might be a difference in our TVs but I think the picture is damn nice too.

I hooked up the spare computer and got a subscription to an online movie service. I love these guys. Oh sure, the TV seasons are behind what everyone else is seeing, but being able to watch the entire season in a couple of weeks is the best way to watch any of the seasons from the networks. Also, since this is a computer I can watch a lot of episodes on the websites of the channels. Oh sure sometimes the quality is not as good and the advertisements are just as long, but I really do not care. Same show, same commercials, better convenience and price for me, can watch them whenever I want and I only pay for the internet plan.

So find a great DSL home plan, I have the one without a home phone, this is awesome speed and reliability. Get a good online movie plan and a decent computer to hook to your TV. Grab an antenna and watch great TV at a tremendously lower price.
