50 Inch Flat Screen Tv
Where Did My TV Go?
A few years back, my wonderful wife bought me a 50 inch, flat screen TV for my birthday. It is not like the fancy LCD or Plasma TV's of today. It is just a plain old, run of the mill big screen TV. And I love it!
It was really something I wanted. Something that I could use to watch my favorite programs on. A huge screen where my friends and I could watch the Super Bowl, the Daytona 500, the World Series and our beloved Detroit Red Wings on. It was really the perfect gift.
This last Christmas I wanted to give the perfect gift for my family. Something that everyone would use and enjoy and wouldn't start collecting dust an hour after it was opened. Something that we could all use by ourselves or that we could enjoy together, a way for our family to bond.
After much searching and thinking, I decided that I would buy our family a Nintendo Wii. During the Christmas of 2007, these machines were hard to find and when you did they were most likely trumped up for profit at your favorite online auction site. But a year later their availability was more favorable to the Christmas shopper and I took advantage of that.
The Wii Was A Success!
As I imagined, the Nintendo Wii was a hit on Christmas Day! It only took a few minutes to hook up the console and to get everything set up. I had bought extra controllers and a charging kit for the controller. What a blessing that has been, as I am sure that it has saved me a ton in battery costs.
We played it all of Christmas Day and the days that followed. But as we play the new video game console, something strange hit me. Our viewing time of the TV had gone down, in fact, I wasn't sure I had a TV at all anymore, because in one day all of the following had happened.
My TV Turned Into A Sports Arena!
In the morning, as we all started to get up, we slowly migrated to the living room to enjoy playing Wii Sports. This is the game that had come with the system and it seemed that is all that we played! Our living room, through the TV, had turned into a tennis court, bowling alley, golf course, baseball stadium and a boxing ring!
Later in the day, I was walking through the living room and my wife was checking the weather and the news via the Wii! Whatever happened to The Weather Channel and CNN?
The next time I through the living room, my daughter and her friend were watching YouTube.com videos on MY TV. They have nicknamed the Internet access via the Wii the "Wiinernet." I thought that was kind of catchy myself!
At the end of the day, I pulled out my Wii Fit accessory and turned my TV into a gym and started my personal workout, followed by my wife trying her hand at Yoga! So why do I need a TV for anyway, right?
Where Did My TV Go?
While I do miss my TV (I still watch it every now and again), the Nintendo Wii has done a fine job of replacing it and has found a permanent place in our home. I know I will still find time to watch my favorite sports programs, but any other time it is a WiiTV!
