It is important to understand that purchasing a new TV can be overwhelming. You need to understand what the difference is in each option and ask yourself if you are going to get any benefit by paying for 1080?
Do a : Search for Best TV
Most broadcast will show it is 720 progressive scan which is a very high resolution. You will be able to get the highest resolution with either choice that you make. With the 720 you are seeing all the lines at the same time progressive "P" but with the 1080i the lines are showed interlaced.
You should note for sporting events it is better to have progressive scan so that there is no blurring affect. In some cases the interlace signal will give you a blur or choppy image so for the best picture progressive makes more sense. But in the bigger picture you will be satisfied with either choice because HDTV can not be beat.
Remember that before making a large purchase such as a HDTV you need to compare prices and features of each Television. You can also read reviews to get a better idea of what other people think so that when you are ready to buy you make the best choice.

Why is my display unstable?
I have a dynex 1080i hdtv and a pc with a radeon 4890 HD card. Im using the dvi to hdim adapter that came with the card. When i use the 1920x1080 resolution the display is flickery and almost looks like its vibrating. When i put it on a lower resolution the stability gets better but the sides of the picture are cut off. How can i fix this?

Will a Blu-Ray player work on my HDTV that couldn't display a PS3 in 1080p mode?
My 1080i HDTV is a few years old, and was built by a now-defunct manufacturer (Olevia). When my friend plugged his PS3 into the TV the other day (using HDMI), it could not display the signal (gave an "invalid signal" error), after research, we found it was because the PS3 was set to 1080p.
My DVD player croaked the other day, so I am thinking of making the upgrade to a Blu-Ray player, but I am concerned that my TV might have the same issue with a 1080p Blu-Ray player that it had with the PS3 that was set to 1080p.
Do most Blu-Ray players have the ability to display in 1080i if they need to? Will I have to buy a multiple Blu-Ray players and try them until I find one that works? Should I just get a new DVD player until I can afford a new 1080p TV?
